GIS data, such as shapefiles, can be converted to other data types including: feature objects, 2D scatter points, 3D scatter points, and unstructured grids.

This is done from the main GIS menu, or by right-clicking on a shapefile in the Project Explorer and selecting the Convert To submenu. Commands in this menu include:

Feature objects
Opens the GIS to Feature Objects Wizard. Converts the GIS data to the current active map coverage. See GIS to Feature Objects for more information.
2D scatter points
Converts GIS point data to a 2D scatter point data. If necessary, the GIS data will be broken into multiple scatter sets based on the GIS attributes.
3D scatter points
Converts GIS point data to a 3D scatter point data. If necessary, the GIS data will be broken into multiple scatter sets based on the GIS attributes.
Ugrid
Converts GIS polygon data to an unstructured grid.
