1. Start with two MODFLOW 6 simulations, one with a GWT model and the other with a GWF model.

This workflow focuses on a transport model that is uncoupled from the flow model, so they each have their own MODFLOW 6 simulation. For a transport model that is in the same simulation as its counterpart flow model, there is the Transport Grid Workflow.

2. Run the simulation with the GWF model.
  1. In the Project Explorer, right-click on the MODFLOW 6 simulation and Save Simulation and Run.
  2. The Simulation Run Queue dialog will appear; allow the simulation to run to completion.
  3. When the simulation has finished successfully, click Load Solution.
3. Set up the FMI package.
  1. Right-click on the MF6 GWT Model.svg GWT model and select New Package, then select the desired package from the list.
  2. Right-click on the package in the Project Explorer and select the Open command.
  3. Modify the inputs in the package dialog.
  • Especially make sure to use the Let GMS determine the paths from the flow simulation when saving option and the Select Flow Simulation command to select the flow model that the information for the transport model should come from.
4. Run the simulation with the GWT model.
