Expand1. Digitize material areas (polygons).
Polygons are not created automatically when arcs are enclosed. To create polygons: Use the Feature Objects | Build Polygons command.

Expand2. Define material types.
Select the Edit | Materials Data command. Define material types in the Materials Data dialog.

Expand3. Assign materials to polygons.
Use the Select Poylgon tool to select a polygon. Double-click on the selected polygon or use the Feature Objects | Attributes menu command. In the 2D Mesh Polygon Properties dialog, assign a material type to the polygon.
