The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a website for downloading historical and simulated coastal data called CHS.  It produces HD5 time series curves at various locations.  SMS will read in these files and create a spatial data coverage with time series curves stored on the point.  CHS HURDAT files are not to be read into SMS, because SMS already supports the reading of HURDAT files in there native format.
