To import GIS data into SMS, use the following steps:

1. Import GIS data.
  1. Use the File | Open... command to import GIS data files such as Shapefiles, MIF/MID files, Lidar files, or raster files.
  2. Alternatively, drag and drop the file into the Graphics Window in SMS.
  3. Switch to the GIS module.
  4. Enable ArcObjects (optional).
  5. Load shapefiles using the Add Shapefile Data command or Add Data command.
  6. Load additional data, such as MIF/MID files using the Add MIF/MID File Data command.
  7. Load GIS Layers.
2. Add properties.
  1. Join table data properties.
  2. Set projections.
  3. Define mapping properties.
  4. Manage GIS layers.
3. Convert data.
  1. Interpolate data to scatter module, grid module, mesh module, or map coverage.
  2. Convert GIS data to feature contours, TINs, scatter set, or 2D grid.
